Today we discussed why chapter 16 is important: it is the first time we see any reference to the word "rye". Students re-read chapter 16, with a focus on key elements and phrases that show us Holden's confusion and alienation. They had to choose quotes from the text and develop a dense, well structured paragraph, summarizing chapter 16.
Homework
Read and annotate chapters 17, 18, and 19 and answer the questions.
