Today we posed unanswered questions that remained about the text, and used them for discussion. Then we talked about what Holden was searching for during his "madman" time in NYC, and lastly we analyzed the quote on page 188, stated by Mr. Antolini. Final project options were distributed.

Today we acted out chapter 22, broken up into four scenes. The actors used only the dialogue in the book to portray what Holden was trying to express to Phoebe during that particular scene, and Phoebe's reactions. The audience was to pay close attention in order to be able to answer what incident Holden was discussing during each scene.

Today we read chapter 23 out loud, taking turns. When finished, the students worked to answer the questions pertaining to chapter 23. We reviewed the answers as a class.

What is your opinion on conforming? Should someone change who they are to please everyone around them, or should they do what makes them happy?

Put yourself in his shoes: you just got kicked out of a prep school and your parents have no idea that you left and are back in New York City. What are your feelings about being in the big city alone, no one having any idea of where you are? Are you scared or do you have a sense of a newfound freedom? Write 1 page on your feelings and let us know why you feel this way.

Write 3 paragraphs about how this person shares similar characteristics with either one of these characters. If you do not know anyone with these characteristics, write 3 paragraphs on if you would want a friend like Stradlater or Holden. Why or why not?

Study for the vocabulary quiz! If you failed the previous quiz you are required to attend either Lunch & Learn tomorrow or SOS. If you do attend it will be -10 on the quiz. Check mygradebook if you do not remember what you scored on the previous quiz.

Students did some free writing for about 5 minutes, focusing on one object in the room and describing it with sensory details. Then students worked on a characterization chart with a focus on Holden and different observations surrounding him.
